Waste services available

Here’s some useful information on waste disposal following the North and north-west flooding. We’ll update you on more services as they are confirmed. You can phone us to check for updates or visit OurAuckland.nz.

Private land:

  • If you have storm debris or storm damaged household items as result of the storm event, it can be taken to the Waitākere Refuse and Recycling Transfer Station, 50 The Concourse Henderson. Phone ahead – the Waitākere Refuse and Recycling Transfer Station is closed at Alert Level 4 so phone us on 0800 22 22 00 to confirm your visit.
    • You will need to provide your name, address and vehicle registration to make the process easy at the gate and adhere to the Alert Level 4 rules, including wearing a face-covering, scanning in and keeping a physical distance, and wear closed shoes.
  • There is no cost for the disposal of storm debris or storm damaged household items.
  • Please contact your insurance company first to confirm the process for disposing of building-related debris, including soft furnishings and storm damaged household items.
  • You can find more information and advice on the Insurance Council website, www.icnz.org.nz.
  • For property owners that need access to the Waitākere Refuse and Recycling Transfer Station to dispose of building-related waste, please contact the council on 0800 22 22 00 – it is not open to the public in Alert Level 4. 
    • All building-related waste can be disposed of at the owner's own cost.
    • Storm debris or storm damaged household items can be disposed of free of charge.
  • Waste companies in the area can offer skip bins for flood damaged material at the owner's own cost.

  • Medical waste, needles or medical equipment

When visiting Waitākere Refuse and Recycling Transfer Station following rules must be observed while on site.

  • Only two people per vehicle.
  • Closed, covered shoes must be worn at all times. ‘Crocs’ are not acceptable.
  • Face masks - a face mask must be worn on site at all times.
  • Gloves - it is compulsory for you to wear gloves while on site at all times.
  • Keep a two metre distance from people outside of your ’bubble’ at all times. Use hand sanitiser immediately after unloading your vehicle, if available. Please wash your hands thoroughly when you return home.

To ensure the health and safety of everyone on site, please follow the rules set out above. Failure to comply may result in access to the site being declined.

Any attempts to illegally dump non-flood related debris and general rubbish, by anyone turning up at the Waitakere Refuse and Recycling Transfer Station, on the weekend while closed, will be seen as an Alert Level 4 breach reported to the Police.

If using a alternative options to dispose of your flood damage materials please ensure they are placed outside the boundary of your property, on the kerbside for collection.

If you don’t have insurance or a way of getting to the Waitākere Refuse and Recycling Transfer Station, 50 The Concourse Henderson, call us on 0800 22 22 00 and we’ll see what we can do to help. Please don’t dispose of waste by illegal dumping. You can report illegal dumping to the council on 0800 NO DUMP.

Public property:
