Don't get left behind - implementing new truck routes
Auckland Council contracts private waste companies to collect rubbish and recycling from residents. On November 30th the contractors who collect rubbish in Central, East, and South Auckland will change, and this means you might notice some changes to your rubbish service.
The new contractors are implementing new truck routes, so you will notice that the rubbish truck will arrive at a different time than normal.
The new collectors will be using new truck routes, so it’s very likely that the rubbish truck will come at a different time of day than usual.
Collections start from 7am every day, so make sure you put your bin (or bag) out on time so you don’t miss your collection.
If you’re in Papakura look out for the new orange electric rubbish truck!
The new contractor is taking over rubbish collections in the former Auckland City, Manukau City, Papakura District, and Franklin District areas and will be making their collection routes more efficient.
The contractor who collects Auckland Council rubbish bins and bags in the North Shore and Waitakere areas changed from Monday 6 July 2020.
No, there will be no changes to properties with an early collection (5:30am, 6:00am, or 6:30am). Please keep putting your bins out at your usual time.
To confirm if this applies to you, please look on the Auckland Council website.
Will my collection day change?
No, there are no planned collection day changes in this area at this time. You can check your Collection Day on the Auckland Council website.
No, this change only affects rubbish collections.
The existing collection routes aren’t the most efficient way to drive all the streets in the area. The new routes are designed to be more efficient and make the rubbish collection service more consistent.
Monday 30th November 2020. However, some neighbourhoods may have started trialing new routes sooner.
If you put your rubbish bin (or bag) out the night before, or before 7am on your collection day, then please call us on 09 301 0101 to arrange a collection. If you put your bin (or bag) out after 7am it’s possible that the truck has already gone past your property. If your bin isn’t collected by 7pm please take it back in and put it out next week. If you have excess rubbish you can take it to your nearest transfer station.
Auckland Council rubbish collections have always run from 7am (or earlier in some areas), but we understand that some residents may be used to putting their bin out later in the day. We’ve put signage around major transport routes, street posters, and some flyer drops to inform residents of the change. You may have also seen posts on your local board Facebook page, Neighbourly, Makethemostofwaste and OurAuckland.
The number of properties needing rubbish collections hasn’t changed – so we still need drivers and runners. Many of our current drivers and runners will be employed by the new contractors and you’ll likely still see the same people picking up your bins.
