Keen to help support your community to compost locally? Thanks to Auckland Council, the Compost Collective has funds available to help support you.

The Community Composting Fund is created to help people to compost food and garden waste locally within their own neighbourhood. Communities to us are schools, organisations, businesses, basically anywhere where the people in your community can come and drop off food scraps for composting.

Anyone based in Auckland can apply to the Community Compost Fund, which can be used for expenses like:

Contribution towards (large scale) composting systems

Equipment to help manage your composting systems, such as turning forks, thermometers and weighing scales (for data collection purposes)

Composting signage (we have templates available if needed)

Safety equipment

DIY solutions

To apply for the Community Composting Fund, fill in the online application form and all the extra information, including the requirement you need to meet, are available here.

A network of community composting hubs

We want to build a network of composting hubs right across Auckland, to give everyone the opportunity to compost and help keep organic waste out of landfill. We want to make it even easier for everyone, including those who don’t have the use for compost at home, or the space to make it.

We currently have three Community Composting Hubs running as pilots, to evaluate how best to meet our community needs:

HOPE TEACHING GARDEN, RIVERBANK ROAD, NEW LYNN and ECOMATTERS ORGANIC TEACHING GARDEN, OLYMPIC PLACE, NEW LYNN supported by EcoMatters.

For more information please contact Amanda: amanda@ecomatters.org.nz

ENGINE BAY NURSERY, HOBSONVILLE POINT supported by Kaipātiki Project.

For more information please contact Judith: gardenhub@kaipatiki.org.nz

Looking for an existing community compost hub in your neighbourhood to drop off your food scraps? Check out our information about donating to community compost hubs here.
