New resource recovery and waste services coming to Waiheke in 2020

Auckland Council has entered into an agreement for new resource recovery and waste services on Waiheke Island with Amenities and Infrastructure Maintenance (AIM) Services. The new services are designed to drive transformation in the way that the island manages its waste to achieve the community’s vision of zero waste to landfill by 2040.

Auckland Council’s Senior Waste Planning Advisor for Construction and Demolition Waste, Mark Roberts, has been awarded a 2019 Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship and will be travelling to North America to investigate how community-led deconstruction hubs successfully divert construction and demolition waste materials from landfill for beneficial use.

The Browns Bay centre was keen to investigate different sustainable practices and teamed up with Auckland Council WasteWise Advisors to look for ways to minimise their waste.
